Strong Astrophotography Conditions in Rockies and Great Plains
Tonight’s best astrophotography conditions are found in the Rockies and Great Plains, with Salt Lake City and Boise both scoring a perfect 100, and Sioux Falls and Oklahoma City also offering excellent viewing. The Southwest shows mixed conditions, with San Francisco and Phoenix rated excellent, but San Diego and Albuquerque lagging behind. The Pacific Northwest is similarly mixed, as Seattle and Portland offer excellent skies, while Spokane and Anchorage face poor conditions. The Southeast, Midwest, and Northeast regions generally have weaker conditions, with many cities scoring below 50, including New York, Detroit, and Miami, where cloud cover and rain reduce visibility. Overall, the Rockies and Great Plains provide the most reliable opportunities for astrophotography tonight.
The Rockies stand out with near-perfect conditions in Salt Lake City and Billings, both scoring 99 or 100, and generally low cloud cover and no rain, making it ideal for night sky observation.
